Catch the Buzz: Telepathique
Brazilian dance duo bust south-of-the-border preconceptions, formulate own brand of grooving guitars and compu-beats on forthcoming debut, Last Time on Earth.
By William Goodman
Who? Stateside ears are no stranger to dance tunes spouting from Brazil -- CSS and Bonde do Role have already put the country on the indie-minded map. But Telepathique, a duo calling the same nation home, certainly bring a whole new sound to the dance floor. With the Love & Lust EP (out March 18), DJ/producer/drummer Erico Theobaldo and vocalist Mylene Pires mix robo-beats, screeching, sharp guitars, and bits of house, electro, baile funk, and bossa nova rhythms with Pires' Portuguese-English monotonous blurts, teasing the Aug. 5 arrival of the duo's debut full-length, Last Time on Earth. Check out "Love & Lust" (off both the EP and forthcoming LP) below.
Their latest: Love & Lust EP is out now via Control Group. Telepathique's debut full-length, Last Time on Earth, which dropped in Brazil in 2006, arrives stateside Aug. 5.
