Brazilian music has a new ambassador. This eponymous debut from the 23-year-old songstress - her name means 'Sky' - has already made waves in the US, and promises to emulate the crossover success of Bebel Gilberto.
Follow up:
It's a beautifully crafted affair that stalks a nice line between samba roots and inventive Sao Paulo electronica. Its sultry tropical trip-hop carries tints of Afrobeat, jazz and reggae (including a version of Marley's 'Concrete Jungle'), but CeU's languid, airy vocals are pure Brazil. Whether swinging to a funky horn section on 'Rainha' or turning reflective on '10 Contados', it's a perfect summer soundtrack.
